Book a ConsultationMarco Aalbers is a leading expert in Caribbean tax law with more than a decade of experience as both a tax advisor and former tax inspector in Sint Maarten. He has served in public and private sector roles, including with the Government of Sint Maarten, PwC Dutch Caribbean, and Wolters Kluwer. His work focuses on formal and procedural tax law, international and interregional taxation, fiscal policy development, and strategic tax optimization for clients operating in and across Caribbean jurisdictions.
Marco is the author of St. Maarten Tax Legislation 2024 (ENG), the first comprehensive English-language edition of Sint Maarten's tax laws. In January 2024, he presented this work to then Member of Parliament Rolando Brison, marking a milestone in improving public access to fiscal information that had previously only been available in Dutch. The publication has since become an annual reference available through VanDorp. He is co-author of Capita Selecta; Caribisch Fiscaal Recht, a foundational textbook offering a thematic introduction to the tax systems of Sint Maarten, Curaçao, Aruba, the BES islands, and Suriname. Marco has also contributed to Vakstudie Belastingrecht Deel 16 – Caribisch Fiscaal Recht (Wolters Kluwer).
His academic work extends to specialized research, including the fiscal treatment of cryptocurrencies in Sint Maarten. Marco lectures at the University of Curaçao Dr. Moises da Costa Gomez, where he trains students and professionals in Caribbean tax law.
